(4) Repeat order for spare blades please quote the Serial No. of SAMAR.

TOOLING HINTS FOR USE WITH SAMAR

POSSIBLE CAUSE OF CHATTER PROBLEM
SOLUTIONS
1. Lack of rigidity in set up of machine. 1. Check holding of part, loose slides or machine gibs.
2. Excessive clearance on blades. 2. Reduce clearance angle on blades by grinding 3° to 5° primary.
3. Insufficient reaming stock. 3. Increase reaming stock allowance.
4. Too little back taper on blades 4. Increase back taper.
5. Dull cutting blades. 5. Regrind or replace blades.
6. Improper speed to feed ratio. 6. Alter the speed to feed, changing one or both to find best ratio.

FINISH CONTROL PROBLEMS
SOLUTIONS
1. Rough finish, tearing or gauged hole threadlike 1. Increase top rake of blades.
     finish 2. Decrease feeds.
  3. Break sharp edge of chamfer by honing with slight radius.
  4. Insufficient coolant supply or wrong coolant.
  5. Grind shave angle 3° x 1 mm. long behind chamfer angle.

CAUSES OF SIZE CONTROL PROBLEM
SOLUTIONS
1. Misalignment beyond float limit of reamer. 1. Indicate reamers or holders and spindle for permissible run out.
2. Cutter blades not floating or locked solid. 2. Check blades for burrs or chips. Grind 0.05 mm. back edge of
blade to ensure end cap not locking blades.
3. Chamfer not alike on blade or blades or blades
not ground correctly. Cut is not properly balanced.
3. Regrind or replace blades.
4. Part picking up heat. 4. Use sufficient and proper coolant, Reduce speed.
5. Picking on blades (built up edge) 5. Lap the blades by diamond lapping stick. Increase top rake. Remove sharp edges by light honing on cutting edge.
6. Lock ring not tight. Blades expand and cut oversize. 6. Tighten up the lock ring
7. Worn ways or slides of machine 7. Install reamer in position of greatest error of machine : IMPORTANT: Error must be within float limit of reamer. Realign holders to true position.

SHORT LIFE OF BLADES SOLUTIONS
1. Too great speed. 1. Check for proper blade material (High Speed or Carbide).
2. Material too hard or hard spots. 2 Check material and hardness.
3. Improper lubrication. 3. Check coolant, applicant, and coolant type.
4. Tool geometry. 4. Check grinding of blades.
5. Cutting blade material 5. Proper grade of Carbide.

BLADES SHARPENING

The cutting edges of the blades must be kept sharp to obtain the best finish. In most cases the cutting edges can be satisfactorily maintained by diamond lapping stick and rarely will it be necessary to remove the blades and grind them.

Fig. 1 shows a pair of blades ground with top rake varying from 3° to 5° which is recommended for obtaining the best results when reaming soft materials

Though grinding as shown in Fig. 2 will make the blades last a little longer, the working range of 'SAMAR' will be reduced. Hence grinding of the front cutting angle should be done sparingly.
